Albert Egger and George Scudder founded the Egger-Scudder Company in 1946, supplying structural steel for building and highway projects across South Dakota during a time of post-war steel shortages.

With the development of the Interstate Highway System in the 1950s and now known as Egger Steel Company, the product line grew to include steel bridge girders.  In 1955, Egger Steel joined with Nelson Stud Welding and the South Dakota Department of Transportation to design and fabricate a composite steel bridge utilizing welded stud shear connections.  This design became the worldwide industry standard.

Over the years, Egger Steel’s market has expanded to cover North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota and even markets as far away as California for specialty products such as fracture critical girders.
